President Luis Abinader announced during his weekly press conference on Monday, 19 May 2025 that a major road security pact will be soon announced as a major step towards the reduction of traffic accidents and reduction of traffic jams. Abinader said the initiative seeks to unify efforts among the government, private sector, and civil society to tackle the nation’s pressing challenges in traffic management and road safety.
“The pact is quite advanced; some arrangements are being made to launch it in the coming weeks. I believe it should be launched in June,” President Abinader stated. He emphasized that the pact will be supported by extensive studies designed to improve both road safety and traffic flow, noting that “the two things go hand in hand.”
