The regular practice of the governments in Haiti for decades has been to accuse France, the Dominican Republic, the United States and Colombia for the current problems.
The rhetoric has yet to focus on the arming and financially supporting gangs by the elite in Haiti, to use these to control territories, disrupt elections and exert political influence in efforts to pursue short-term goals. Analysts have concluded this led to the widespread violence, instability, and breakdown of governance.
The elite’s power struggles, corruption, and lack of accountability have created a climate of political instability, which has further fueled the crisis.
The blame rhetoric ignores the fact that it is the elite in Haiti that controls two private ports of entry.
