US President Donald Trump issued an official ban on entry of citizens of 12 countries, including Haiti. The announcement increases the migratory pressure impacting the Dominican Republic, that has a 391 km land border with Haiti. Exceptions are to be made, for example for the World Cup scheduled to be held in the United States.

Trump said the ban is to “protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors.”

The President was reacting to a recent attack in Boulder, Colorado where 12 people were injured when an Egyptian man attacked a group that had gathered in support of Israeli hostages.

The ban is set to begin on 9 June 2025 and will apply to citizens of Afghanistan, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

The move was announced from the Oval Office.
