The National Police and the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) agents implemented phase two of their operations in the barrio of Capotillo in the northern reaches of the National District.

The agents sought to crack down on micro-trafficking of drugs. After several searches and subsequent arrests, the agents seized 10,126 grams of different drugs as well as equipment used for preparing the drugs for street-corner distribution. Over 60 agents along with seven prosecutors took part in the second operation in the barrio that has a reputation as a place where criminals go to hide.

This is so ridiculous. Everybody knows where the "Puntos" are. They make some noise for the News and Neighbors and than they re open after 2 weeks max.
Not only that the Police knows all this locations, they are on the payroll and leave the buyers alone at a 500 m radius.
What's new is that some of them started to sale only weed and as a kind of "unwritten agreement" they are left alone completely by Law enforcment (for now).

Ah yes, the glamourous drug trade. A concrete room with a steel roof and urine-stained floors. You could probably put a tuna casserole in that sweaty room overnight and it would be cooked. I thought after reading all these threads that the drug trade was dominated by penthouse living, Rolls Royce driving businessmen.

The micro-drugs trade operates openly in almost every barrio across this country.

I lived in a barrio. I know a lot about the micro-drugs trade simply from chatting with my neighbors.
Before you go jumping to any conclusions, I've also lived in some of the most expensive neighborhoods in Western Europe.

I get around.
Exactly !!! Living here for so long and not know about it could be considered as ignorant.

As do I, just not in drug areas. The mere mention of drugs makes me uncomfortable. I will throw down an occasional. Mamajuana. That is about as edgy as I get.

Well Sir, I am definitely ignorant in that subject matter. I do not associate with, do business with or date anyone that is involved.
Regarding the drug trade:
It will not be stopped.
It cannot be stopped.

Now you know a bit more.

Crime will not be stopped? What an eye-opening revelation. You mean to tell me the police on the entire planet have job security.
When it comes to the war on drugs, it will never be won, so yes, they can fight it endlessly without winning.

semantics my esteemed hippie. "crime" will always occur. Encouraging it will destroy a community.
A little peek into what this barrio actually looks like from the inside.
I can not imagine what it must be like for a young child growing up in this environment.

I went to a small party once in Capotillo, by some of my employees who wanted to show me what it was really like.

I was reluctant to go, but I ended up having a great time.

Understanding that that war on drugs can never be won would be a good start. No semantics at all needed for such understanding.
Continue the fight, continue the epic fail. 50 plus years of the failed war and more drugs are being used now than ever.

They are building some nice big new jails. The jail makers will always win while the war on drugs continues. I'd be Mr Happy if I were a jail maker.

Brilliant, release all the rapists, robbers and thieves as well. We will save a fortune on jails. The politicos thankfully have a different ideology here.
