Socorro Castellanos, the well-known trailblazing communicator and broadcaster, passed away on 11 June 2025, after battling with lung cancer for many years. She was 84 years old. She is regarded as one of the most iconic voices in Dominican radio and television. Born in Santiago de los Caballeros in 1941, she began her career in the 1960s and became a pioneer in producing shows targeted towards women, families, and the home, breaking ground on both radio and television.
Castellanos produced and hosted landmark programs such as “Buenas Tardes a la Orden,” “Revista Eva,” “El Show del Mediodía,” and “Punto Final.” She also created children’s programs like “El jardín de Tintinola,” “Bobalina,” and “Don Crispín,” and authored the cookbook “Sabor de mi tierra.”
