Tourism expert Juan Llado in a recent feature in Acento on 12 June 2025 raises the issue of private investors interested in building a new cruise terminal for the capital city of Santo Domingo. Llado looks into the failed attempt by the Inversiones Turisticas de Sans Souci (ITSS) company to install one on the Ozama River. This initiative did not succeed because of the difficulties in dealing with all the debris and garbage that the river brings. Likewise, the proposed 40-floor residential towers included in the development were objected by Unesco that oversees the Colonial City given the Cultural Heritage of Humanity status of the historic city area.

How could this not happen? The DR government is all about AI resorts and Cruise Ports. The more the merrier. Revenue!!!!
