Cuesta Brava’s uphill battle against authorities fail to act in case of environmental violations

Cuesta Brava board of residents is on a media tour to tell about the blatant environmental violations taking place as developers seek to build a major residential project in area off limits. Cuesta Brava is a northern Santo Domingo province residential area located with magnificent views of the Isabela River.

The residents complain that the City Hall of the National District (ADN) and the Ministry of Environment have bent in favor of the developers, despite the violation to the laws.

The Cuesta Brava Neighborhood Association, located in Arroyo Hondo, appealed to President Luis Abinader on Monday, 16 June 2025 to intervene and halt the “environmental disaster” occurring in the area. They are doing the same thing up in Cabarete. Clear cutting huge parcels of land and long time foreign residents are voicing their concerns to no avail.

For those who have money, this will not be an issue and will continue.

Correct that the places near me have all been clear cut, 8 to 10 feet of caliche rock rolled over the surface and condos built on top of that. That seems to be "the way".

My old stomping grounds. I lived there for 6 years. A super quiet residential area. A neighbor there built a 4 apartment building that looked like a mansion until the finishing touches came along.
The residents' association was not happy.
