I noticed that during weekdays, Digisett were nowhere to be found between Nagua to Las Terrenas (nor did I see them from Sosua onwards) but on weekends, they had two checkpoints with radar guns.

1. Just before the toll gate at the end of the toll road from Las Terrenas. Got the two cars before me
2. About a kilometer after you turn into Route 5 towards Nagua.

I believe this is because of increased weekend visitor traffic in this area and to 'ensure their safety'.

After these two, I did not encounter them all the way to Santiago. I wish they operated properly across the country to reduce accidents.

I think rather than trying to ensure their safety, they do it at weekends because there are more unsuspecting drivers!

I drove out to LT on Friday morning a couple of weeks ago. They were set up a few km to the Samaná side of the Santo Domingo Nagua road on Hwy 5… and also 1-2km after the toll plaza on the turística to LT.

I usually make my trips weekdays and they are more often than not in both of those locations.

I went to LT on a Tuesday afternoon and saw none of them. May be they took a siesta after lunch :D

That said, folks need to be careful in this areas to avoid making a contribution

We drove thru 2 of them going to Santo Domingo. Cars were passing them even though there was a double line on the road. Plus, the cars were all speeding way over the limit. But the cops had these tiny motor bikes so they felt it was fruitless. They did stop someone driving on the opposite direction.

There is also check point over the past week near where the new Playero building is being constructed between Sosua and Cabarete.
Some drivers are just blowing by it ignoring the police. That really seems to annoy them.

Are any of you using Waze? Normally the police locations are marked on Waze. Just wanted to know as I am going to Las Terrenas tomorrow

I used Google Maps because I thought Waze might not be as effective in the DR. Getting these alerts (+potholes) in Waze would be great.

Waze is more affective not only for the police but also for speed bumps. It does not have all of them, especially as more and more seem to appear each day, but I prefer to use Waze because of this. I just went to Las Terrenas for the weekend and the police were at all the locations that Waze warned me about.
