Earlier this month;

And now:

It begs lots of questions including how they managed it?

This incident could jeopardize their Category 1 status with the US FAA and affect the ability of Dominican airlines (Arajet) to fly into the US.

Not the first case of a stowaway and I have never heard of that causing a revocation of status.
There have been a number of security breaches at AILA over the years with never any follow up in the news as to what happened. Zero accountability!

You would think that there is some sort of device that can be installed in the wheel wells that would alert the flight crew to someone moving around in there.

Anybody ever thought about that these morons endangered the lives of every single passenger and crew on board !?
My humble opinion: Two Idiots left. Darwin Award at his finest !

What don't people understand that a plane flying at 35,000 feet does not provide oxygen nor heat to the wheel well.
Even at the age of these boys I understood this would be a death sentence.

If you are not crushed by the retracting gear you will surely freeze to death or die of hypoxia.
There is not enough oxygen above 26,000 to sustain life and you will pass out at a much lower elevation.
Likely these boys were unconscious when they died

Would you climb to 29,000 feet on Mt Everest ? Because you will actually exceed that on a commercial flight.
Anyway these boys made a dumb decision and they paid for that ignorance

Perhaps there should be signs in the wheel housing: "If you are reading this, you will die". For the illiterates, a pictogram of a giant wheel and a corpse.
RIP kids. So sad that you weren't raised right.

"Desperation" ???
Why everybody has to be a Victim today ? I don't get it. Why they can't be called what they are !? Two idiots !

Unless something has been updated, the plane originated in Jamaica, then Utah, then NY. Did they determine where these guys lived?

Edit: the plane had been in Puerto Plata on Jan 5th. They both lived in DR.

Countries lose their Category 1 FAA rating due to serious safety and maintenance irregularities. Could this one incident cause them to lose Category 1 status? Probably not. But this instance along with the other numerous safety breaches that have occurred could cause a review and a revocation. Ask Mexico or Thailand or one of the other countries who have lost Category 1 status in the past.

Makes sense. This time they hid themselves. Another time it could be hidden explosives. They must upgrade their security.

To your point, the numerous cocaine smuggling suitcase and duffle bag issues out of Punta Cana could very easily have been explosives. As these types of incidents add up, the FAA begins to take action.

Additionally, I was told the reason(s) that Punta Cana airport does not have US Customs pre-clearance had to do with major security lapses at that airport. There was a big announcement by the DR government years ago that US customs pre-clearance was imminent at PUJ. It never materialized because of those incidents and others we may have not heard about.

The investigators who were sent unannounced to observe and review operations came back with a less than glowing report and that likely along with the highly publicized other security lapses caused the US to then decline US pre-clearance.

Makes you think twice about flying from PUJ. Same with SDQ?

Every accessible exterior compartment on the Canadian Pivot Airlines jet was stuffed with illegal drugs while it was parked at a DR airport. Not explosives but still extremely dangerous to the aircraft’s operation, if they had departed with the drugs on board. Even with security cameras showing airport staff loading the drugs aboard the aircraft, DR drug enforcement ignored and then lost the evidence. Don’t place any faith in DR airport security measures.
