A veces I use A veces and a veces I use aluguno veces. How do you get "some" out of "A". People I speak to use " a veces" and that is how I started to use it but I thought it made more sense to use " aluguno veces"

Clear as mud? Thanks for your help in advance.

"Veces" is feminine and plural so it would be "algunas veces".

A veces literally means "at times" and I believe is the more correct way of expressing the English "sometimes".

You can also say "de vez en cuando" - from time to time.

Amazing forum board--21 minutes and I have a reply--why pay to go to school when you have teachers like Chirimoya?

Correct!

When we would say sometimes, they would say AT, and when we use at they use SOME. Its really that simple. At times in English can convey even less frequency than sometimes. In spanish this is true the other way around, in my living/learning experience.

As for De vez en cuando, it can literally mean (the 1st definition being most frequent:
From time to time
Once in a while
Every now and then
Now and again
Occasionally
etc.
