Am sending you by email some information made available by the US goverment. Note that it dates back to 1995 so it should only serve as reference/guide.
Previous message board contributors have strongly recommended getting a good lawyer to go through the process. We recommend Fabio J. Guzman, at fguzman@drlawyer.com (www.drlawyer.com) about whom we have gotten good feedback from persons who have used his services, and who we are proud to have as an advertiser of DR1.
If you want to go through with it you are also recommended to have lots of patience, time on hand to spend living in the DR to complete the process.
You may also check the archives for more information.
Fabio Guzman himself, contributed to this board in answer to a question on adoption:
"Adoption in the Dominican Republic is governed by Articles 27 through 96 of Law 14-94 and by Articles 14 through 21 of Regulation 59-95. The mininum age for adopting parents is 25. Adopting couples must be married for at least 5 years. The process is time consuming and expensive. A long posting in the archives dated March 20, 1998 is very helpful regarding the U. S. side of the equation, however, it contains mistaken information about age requirements of adopting parents and governing law."
