Affluent Dominicans

I can assure you that "there is such a thing" as affluent Dominicans. But like anywhere, they run in their own affluent circles. The Beverly Hills group....stays in Beverly Hills. Many that are of college age are either in the private Universities here (i.e. UNIBE) or are being educated in the USA. Most speak excellent Spanish and are extremely fluent in English. The DR is a beautiful place....return and enjoy!

I can second that motion! There are quite a number of affluent groups in the Dominican Republic. Most of them live in residential areas like Gazcue, Ensanche Naco, Los Prados to name just a few. But if you are travelling outside of the capital-key areas are: casa de campo, bavaro etc.. There is a great restaurant called Neptuno's which I highly recommend and people who frequent this place are in those circles. Also, remember that just like in the states-there are private country clubs where they hang out- like the The Santo Domingo Country Club. The Dominican Republis is a culturally rich island and diverse in its landscape and terrain-enjoy that too!

I have been to the DR (Boca Chica, Santo Domingo) and was wondering where do the college-educated/upwardly mobile dominican families live, if there is such a thing.

Really looking forward to return to learn more about the country and practice my Spanish.

My interest is not in ex-pats but born-and-bred citizens.

Thank you Patria for pointing that out. I was going to mention that too, but...Even Piantini, where my family lives is not really considered THAT affluent anymore...

Just a correction for Diana, Gazgue and Los Prados are no longer residential areas where affluent Dominicans live. These residential places are: Los Cacicazgos, Arroyo Hondo, Los Rios, Cuesta Hermosa, to name some of the most popular and where you can find the biggest and most beautiful mansions.
