There is a Dominican song that uses the slang, "Alante, Alante".

It actually means, "Moving forward". But you can also use it to mean "Awesome" or "Wonderful".

For example, one time David Ortiz hit a homer at Yankee stadium, and I shout out, "Alante, Alante". A few Dominican fans gave me a big smile. :chinese: :bunny:

Anyway, my question is this, if one sees an attractive person, is it okay to say, "Alante, Alante"?

One of my Dominican friends played a joke on me. He told me that "La Pa" means "Make peace" and "La Paz" means "F**k". I found out the hard way. lol

My Dominican friends have corrupted me in a very good way. lol :bunny:

In the case of "chinito quiele la pa'(z)"; it is a phrase that plays with words and an old joke. It was brought back into popularity a few months ago by a song from Julian Oro Duro. The phrase plays on the fact that Dominicans usually leave out the "S" sound from many words, and that Chinese people have a difficult time pronouncing the "R" sound in Spanish, and instead pronounce it as an "L" sound. So take the phrase "chinito quiele la pa' " and substitute an "R" wherever you see an "L", and you have the actual intended phrase.

Here are some examples of when to use the word:

someone has a good job; getting paid well; dressed nice; looks in good shape...in general, it means you're in style; in the loop, etc.

People also say for example: "tu ta' como el 809..." the end to that is known to be "alante alante"...y? bc this is the area code of DR...and we all know DR is "alante alante"...lol, also bc these are the numbers that are first before you dial any number in DR (ahead).

In contrast, if someone says for example "tu ta' de mochila"...mochila means bookbag...and where do bookbags go? on ur back, behind u...so your behind, your out of style, not in the loop, etc... so tu ta' atra (behind).

So alante is to 809 as atra' is to mochila.

I think you can tell a girl this but it's generally not used to describe her physical looks...unless she's wearing something really in style...like an older woman looking young and wearing youthful clothes or clothes that make her look good...she can be "alante alante"...but I suggest saying this only if you know her well enough.
