Has anyone been to this resort recently? We'll be there 12/4 to 12/11. We've never been to DR. Any information would be great.

I just got back from Allegro last week. I have been there 7 times in the last few years and I absolutley LOVE it. My sister will actually be there at the same time as you, she is leaving on Dec 5 and returning the 12th! The food is excellent and the activities are great. Let me know what concerns and or information you want and ill gladly answer any question.

Thanks for the quick reply Vanessa. I think we'll have a great time! What must be worn at dinner time. We'd like to be casual without being "dumpy" but don't want to be under-dressed either. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

Hi Donna,

They have 4 Restaurants for supper. The main dinning room...you can dress casual, shorts are ok, most people tend to dress "neatly". In the main the main dinning room they have a theme every night...eg:Friday = Mexican, Wednesday = Dominican, I believe Thursay was international. The other three specialty restaurants (Italian, Seafood and Carribean) are a little more dressy, pants are required for men, and these restaurants require a reservation, which can be made at the guest services desk in the reception. I suggest you make them early, and I also suggest you make one for Wednesday!!( the food was not impressive that night!!) Look for a group of loud Canadians when your there! My sister will be there with her husband, in laws, sister in law, her two sons and her two nieces! They shouldnt be too hard to miss! The nightly entertainment is really fun too...certain nights they have "audience participation" shows and other nights they have "broadway type" shows...I recommend Grease...it was great. Thursday night in the Disco is Tequila night! Im not sure what your into, but i went with a group of girlfriends and we had a blast that night! Also if your travelling with kids...the kids club is excellent! If you have any othe questions let me know. Vanessa

You sound like a seasoned traveler. We're going to Puerto Plata, problem is that the charter flight we had was cancelled, we booked flight for all sections except puj to pop (punta cana to puerto plata) We'll be arriving puj at 6:30 Do you know any way of contacting air santa domingo? Is there a hotel at the airport or very near? Do you know alternate ways of traveling to POP? Thanks for any info you can give.

Try by all means to change your hotel package and stay in Punta Cana. It will cost you quite a penny to cross over to Puerto Plata from PUJ airport.

The flight by Air Santo Domingo will cost about US$132 per passenger per round trip. You can contact them at 809 683-8020. They have flights departing Punta Cana airport at 11:15 am and 6 pm. Thus you will miss the last flight and have to spend the evening in Punta Cana anyway. The flight takes about an hour and puts you into Puerto Plata airport.

The alternate way will be to commute to Santo Domingo (about US$100 by taxi or about US$6 if you take a public bus to Higuey and from there another public bus to Santo Domingo) and then take the excellent Metro or Caribe Tours buses to Puerto Plata. This long 225 km. (four-hour) trek is about US$6.

Conclusion, try all you can to change your vacation plans and stay in Punta Cana this time.
