We’re visiting in January. And while we know we will have wireless, we don’t know how “smart” our tv will be.
Has anyone had any experience with either of these device? Can we connect with our Netflix and Amazon streaming services?

I was able to use Amazon and Netflix a couple years ago. I had to use a VPN. i'm almost certain the powers that stream have blocked VPN's since, but not entirely sure, cuz i haven't tried, so might still work. wish i had a better answer for you, but there's a lot of geeks on here, someone will know.

this question was posted in another forum, you can use both devices, no VPN needed unless your device has been side loaded with KODI, then you may wan to use a VPN.

dinosinc, are you sure?

I can't comment on netfix because I do not use that service. However, I am a heavy Amazon content user and without an US based IP address, I'm pretty sure any user will be S.O.L. with Amazon.

I have a Samsung smart TV and login with my Cnd Netflix account and Amazon prime, I also have a Fire TV and both NF/prime work. There is a possibility that my local ISP is feeding me a USA ip address I have never checked. Can anyone comment on whether a non USA ip will require a VPN.

That's my point. If you try to login to US Netflix or US Amazon to stream music/videos you will need to present a US based IP address. Either one provided by your ISP or one provided by a VPN that isn't blocked by Netflix/Amazon if you are not physically in the USA..

Most content on US Amazon is geofenced.

Tripp789 may encounter issues if in the DR trying to access these services using a Dominican ISP if they do not offer a US IP address as part of their internet service package.

Streaming sticks and dongles used to exist solely as low-budget alternatives to bigger, more powerful set-top boxes. Nowadays, though, these tiny little tech marvels can perform nearly all the same tasks as their larger brethren, but at more manageable prices (and sizes).

Firestick is better. I have a firebox and watch netflix without a vpn although the content is different with a vpn. However, netflix knows when you use vpn. Need vpn for Amazon and sling tv

I will recommend you to go to amazon firestick. You can chill there using Netflix, amazon streaming services, hotstar, youtube and many more.
