Amber mines and Ferries

We're visiting in January. Are there ferries to DR from Mexico. Also do you know where the good amber mines are? Thank you, Poppy

For the ferries - I doubt if there is any service even as a cruise liner! Take the plane, it's faster!

And for the amber mines, you might try the scenic drive from Puerto Plata to Santiago, on the summit you will find lots of amber dealers and probably people willing to show you the mines! I believe this is the best way to see them as we have other mines in Bayaguana and El Valle (Hato Mayor), but they are not as scenic as the places around Puerto Plata! Also the amber from Puerto Plata is majorely of better quality than the other findings!

Raw Amber

Is there anyone exporting raw amber in the DR? Is it available within the DR, and if so, at what price?
