I read that it is only going to operate until the end of March. So basically 2 flights a week for the next three weeks and then let's see.

I'd think this would be pretty popular with the folks that usually fly into Punta Cana then try to find a cheap way to get to the North Coast.

The way the article is worded, it not really a new destination or flight. They're just going to operate it out of MIA instead of CLT.

Only 1 month? American Airlines needs to promote it!
A lot more foreigners have discovered Samana these days

But I remember around 10 years ago when JetBlue did a route from JFK to Samana/El Catey and it went bust

I just went onto Google Flights and checked, the last flight is on April 2nd. So basically American Airlines is diverting the service they previously ran from Charlotte to Miami for 3 weeks and trying to get as much publicity out of it as possible.
