Has anyone heard more about the upcoming American Airlines strike? I heard it may begin July 1st. I'll be down there and I am curous if anyone has heard anything.

This will be the second strike I have been in so I am not TOO concerned........I am just curious if anyone has more info!

Thanks!

I am scheduled to leave on the 3rd of July on American, MIA-SDQ. I have been told by an American employee here in Miami that the cabin crews have been working for more than two years without a contract. The July 1 deadline gives them the option to strike, but my friend is a union steward(not with the cabin crew union)and he didnt believe that a strike would happen that soon if at all. Only hear-say.

Ya I feel as if the strike will not happen.......but it's good to stay on top of things. I am leaving June 18th and scheduled to return July 4th!

Even tough I travel to the DR 4-5 times a year....I still would mind being trapped on the island waiting for a contract to pass! Who wouldn't put off work for that! Ha ha!

Thanks again for all the info! Miamiman have a GREAT trip!

Our present administration is far too anti-labor and pro Big business to ever allow a strike that could "cripple National Interests"

I agree. I was involved in the last strike. I happened to be in Jamaica at the time. Ther were NO American flights leaving the island......and it took us 2 or 3 days to get a seat on Air Jamaica to arrive back home. It was a great unexpected extended vacation- with bills paid by American!

Well I am scheduled to fly home from POP July 3.
I have a contract with American. If they don't fly that day they will compensate me or I will file suit in the usa!

Go for it, their (AA) contract of carriage (your agreement) SPECIFICALLY precludes any liability for labor stoppages

They took care of everything in Jamaica! We rec'd a travel voucher as well! This was because we missed 2-3 extra days at work. Hey I wasn't going to complain!

So bring the strike on! Ha ha! Just kidding! Since American and TWA are owned now by American (this is right now- right?) I am assuming we will have little or no chances of getting a seat on a TWA flight! That leaves thousands of US travelors diving for the few remaining seats on Contenential (spelling?)!

So well see what happens! I doubt anything will at this point....but you never know!

You have US Air and a few others also. If you can find it and really think a strike is imminet, buy travel insurance

I don't think the strike will go on..The PEB is going to halt the strike for another 60 days and they will reach an agreement, AA cannot afford a strike with the economic downturn. I mean, they can..but it is not a good idea for them. For me, I'm waiting for another carrier to start ops from Florida to fly them, I have more than 2 years that I don't fly AA, and hope not flying them again.

As I said before; Bush is very anti-labor and I'm wuite sure he would order them back to work citing 'National Interests" He has the authority

I know that..Guess who paid $250,000 for Bush party when he took the presidency? And both are from Dallas...But anyways, I still hate AA...
