Well, it isn't as if a murderer is killing people 24/7. Most criminals are just normal people during most of the time. That's one of the reasons some people are shocked when so-and-so is arrested, since "he was such a nice guy, even called his mother every week." Not many think the person passing by you at the supermarket, the one helping the old lady cross the street, etc can have issues up his sleeves.

The one thing that does sticks out to me is that often when an American running away from the law is caught in the DR, usually they don't look like him. Makes me wonder if this isn't a sign this "habit" is expanding to other types of Americans (and expats in general.)

There is a potential murderer in anyone and under certain circumstances everyone is capable of committing a murder, especially in cases of self defence which this could've been because the victim was stabbed. In any case someone sang and ratted this guy out.

The DR is full of wanted criminals including murders both foreign and local.
"C" (as he is known) is laid back dude. Ive spoken with him several times while
in Sosua as he and I have a few of the same acquaintances.
From what I've been told he'd recently completed a 15 year sentence
for homicide prior to his arrival in the DR. Sucks. Sounds like he prefers (as do I)
to settle his grievances out of the courts.

Self defense is not murder. Self defense is just that.
It is a murder (someone got killed) but it's not a premeditated murder. Also self-defence is very hard to prove, unless you have a video of the incident or very credible witnesses, or the victim was a known criminal, most lawyers with advise you to take the plea deal. In Canada if someone breaks into your home and attacks you the most law allows you to do is make a citizen's arrest, if you kill the intruder you'll be charged with murder and then you can plead it down to manslaughter. It's ridiculous but it is what it is.

That's laughable.
Speaking from personal experience, down south if someone breaks into your home, attacks you,
you let off a couple of rounds and thug boy ends up in a wheelchair with a colostomy bag
(not only do we still crack jokes about it).... 😅😂🤣
we call that self-defense.

Yes I recognize him from Platinum gym and he's polite, always clean, quiet and goes about his workout with resolve and always considerate of others around him (unlike many of the bozos there). He has a couple like-minded buddies he works out with.
So the whole Thread Title is confusing.
Was he arrested for something that happened in DR or is the OP referencing something from his past that he has served time for.
Many of us have been locked up prior for 'incidents', including myself.
But I would be shocked if he took any violent action against someone here.

He was arrested and deported for a murder he committed 14 years ago.

Just so I am understanding correctly, he served a previous sentence for a homicide and now has been arrested/deported/extradited for another possible homicide? Or does this have to do with the same homicide he served time for?

My question too. I guess you never can tell (C'est La Vie - say the old folks).

But based on my observations over seeing him the past 4 years this guy isn't a murderer.

Where does it say he served a previous sentence for a homicide?

It would be more accurate of they stated he was Arrested in Connection with a HOMICIDE.
Although both terms seem to be used , Until SPECIFIC INTENT is Shown, and would have to be Proven , its not a Murder til then.
Its a Homicide and he is the main person of Interest ..
It could very well have been a Fight, and this guy was defending himself , and then it could easily become Manslaughter at most .
Although his FLEEING the Country is NOT good for his Defense.
Curious what they actually charge him with .... I highly doubt it will be Murder 1 , very unlikely, unless it was a planned in advance Killing .

The math don't add up. If he was telling people (as CristoRey says) he's completed a 15 year sentence it was a smart decoy story to tell in case someone heard something about him and some murder case back home the assumption would be yeah it's true but he's already served 15 years for it.

There are several stories about this online. It adds up if he had previously been in prison for another homicide not related to this one.

He was arrested last week. He had fled Lancaster, Penn back in 2009, to the DR, and they've been looking for him. The story he was telling about just being released after 15 years seems like that was his cover story:
