I am a dominican who is married to a native american. I lived in the United States for over eight years (Texas, Ohio and Alabama.) We finally decided to move back to the Dominican Republic for several reasons, although it is true that my family was a very big part of that decission. After living for so many years in the U.S. it has been quite difficult to get use to some things, specially driving. Of course I do have two children, two and five years of age, so it is a little bit different from when I used to live here. Our biggest problem was taking everything out of the port. It is a mess!!!!! I would suggest for you not to send anything. You really need to come with an open mind. There are good and bad things, just like anywere else. People are friendly, there's many things to do and many places to go, and there are many americans who live in the island. You can find most of the things that you get in the states and everything is getting more and more americanlike. Besides, your children can go to schools where they will be safe and there are also many good private bilingual schools. I think you should try it and give it a chance.
