Does anyone know if it is possible to use my Canadian(Ontario) Android Box when I am in the DR? Does it require changing device location by some means? TIA

If the apps you're using need location to be Canada, then yes, need to get a VPN, preferably a reliable paid service so the apps can work from DR.

Software you run on an Android box, like Youtube, runs in the same way as it does on a Android phone or tablet.
An app or a server does not care or can not differentiate if a request comes from a Android box or smartphone.
Restrictions depends on the settings of your google account and the ip number the box gets from your internet provider.
To bypass local restrictions for media, you have to use a VPN.
To install apps from Playstore that are restricted to certain countries, you must change the settings in your google account.
