Good morning,There is a parking garage on Arzbisbo Meriño about 1 or 2 blocks north of El Conde. I'm sure there are more as Liberator says above. CZ is perfectly safe. You see families there all the time.
very safe, day or nightAlso, is it safe to walk around zona colonial during the day obviously?? Thank you 😊
If you want my advice, don't drive in the capital.
I've just come back from a long weekend in SD and we left our car at the Abnb we were staying at and used Uber to get around. It's so cheap and so easy to use. Let a local wrangle the horrible traffic, plus your driver probably knows where to avoid the jams. And there's no risk of getting your car pranged or vandalised and you don't have to worry about parking.
We must have taken about a dozen Uber trips during our stay. We didn't have to wait more than five minutes for a car to turn up at our exact location. An example of fare: immigration centre on the Malecon to Agora mall, less than 300 pesos.
When the traffic police wave at me from the side of the road, I always wave back. I never stop unless an agent physically gets in the roadway and forces me to stop. Welcome to Paradise!!Good evening everyone,
I just returned from my day trip from Playa Nueva Romana to zona colonial in the capital. Anyways, just wanted to share with all of you that there is a safe and economic indoors parking lot called La Atarazana. It is a block away from Alcazar de Colon and I paid 150 DOP from 10:45 until 3:30 pm or so. That way you can leave your car and walk around which is the best way to enjoy the area. Now, on a negative note. On my way back from the capital to PNR in the Autovia del Este around San Pedro de Macorís, I was stopped twice by police and all other car were going faster than me. The first time they tried to trick me asking what is the speed limit and I said 80 Km an hour and he said you are right and gave me back car insurance and my driver license. Second time, the cars in front of me did not even stopped! I was the only fool to stop because I live in the US and you are supposed to stop when police tells you to. Anyways, I had to wait around 10 minutes for one the officers to walk to my car and talk to me. What follows is unbelievable, he said you were a little over the limit and I said I have waze that tells me when I am going over and I know I was not over. Then he said no but the application freezes and you were over the limit. The thing is he didn’t even have the radar gun to see my actual speed. I decided not to argue anymore because he said that he would give a break this time. I said thank you but I was furious at this point. All this conversation was in Spanish because I am bilingual. But anyways this harassment is unacceptable. It makes me upset and not to come back here again. I called the main number in DIGISETT but no one answer. I will try again on Monday morning. I think it is unacceptable. Has this happened to you as well? What did you do? What’s is your honest advice if it happens again, please? Thank you 😊

This^^^ because he knows if you are a gringo you don't know local custom (AKA =propina) so he is wasting his time.Speak English.
welcome to DR . but if you pay its only 200- 1000 peso . Its not that's bad when you think of the states and a 500usd ticket plus points .. I always pay if I stop I usually don't stop just keep going.... play the dumb roll..When the traffic police wave at me from the side of the road, I always wave back. The thing is that they could chase me or shoot me. I heard of several incidents where they have shot people for not stopping. Also, the car I rented is not the fastest. It is a Kia Soluto and it may reach 130 km per hour max. It is not like I could outrun them if they decide to follow. They have pick up trucks. I don’t know what brand but they should be at least 6 cylinders. Believe me that I really wanted to speed faster instead of stopping for those assholes. The car in front of me never stopped and they never chased them. Take care and thank you. When the traffic police wave at me from the side of the road, I always wave back.
