About to head to Sousa for the fist time next week, and I am planning on spending my fist night there.

Anyone have good, bad or anything to comment in regards to Don Antonio?

Thanks in advance...

I have never stayed there but met a buddy there once. He stayed there for 1 night and moved on as he found that the place is not "up to par". The facility itself is rundown, did not appear to have much security and their electricity appears to all be produced by their generator. Perhaps that puts things in perspective :)

When I was there, having a drink at the bar there were a lot of chicas around. They seemed to be living there. That's not as exciting as it might seem and to me poses some risks or at least concerns.

I have no plans to stay there, can not recommend it and have removed it from the list of hotels I give to people when asked.

Regarding your handle; I hope you do NOT plan to indulge while in the DR...unless you like horrific prison considions ;)

It's in La Mulata, not walking distance to downtown Sosua, if that is your preference.

Hey Apostropheman,

I have a question for you though, I was reading your hotel post and read this
Don Andres (may or may not be what you're looking for)

What does that mean? there website looked alright, what might I not be looking for?

Don Andres (may or may not be what you're looking for)

I guess thats open to interpretation...your included!

Nobody knows what your specific criteria are, other than budget.

I suppose any hotel falls under that category, why does this one stick out

I just cant figure out what is implied by saying "not sure thats what your looking for"

just curious, and excited about trip

Smot,

The usual suspects of safe, clean, comfortable and inexpensive accommodations include (but are not limited to):

Rocky's (hotel, but he also has very nice inexpensive condos)

Casa Cayena

Casa Valeria

Hotel New Garden (although that's often full due to Italian charter tourists).

All are in town, and within walking distance to restaurants, supermarkets, and clubs.

And be very sure to avoid your apparent hobby. They have three tiers of police out there, and all are basically looking for tourists who think they can get away with behaving badly. The bribe you'd have to pay them on a drug possession charge will be more than a year's salary for them. And you will pay, because especially for a tourist, there are few things worse than Dominican prisons.

Good luck, be safe (and smart), and have fun.:glasses:

Smot,

In my opinion. Don Andres is an OK place. My wife and I lived across from there for some time and ate most of our meals there.

I have not stayed at Don Andres, but have had our daughter and other friends stay there. Rooms/value OK. Mulit-national clients. Food good for the money, bar too. Service good. Pool is clean. Never noticed many "evening ladies" hanging around and street venders aare not allowed in.

Good location with other bars and restaurants nearby and a couple of small food stores in the area. Easy walk to a nearby beach and easy to get to the main Sosua beach.

I think that some rooms have AC at extra charge. Some rooms have/had? kitchenettes. They have their own generator.

Regards, Ringo

try this

Look at the website for the El Colibri hotel. I always stay there and I find it comfortable, friendly, safe, and quiet. It is within walking distance to anything you may want to do in Sosua.

El Colibri is a good hotel. It's clean, the service is outstanding, and the grounds are breathtakingly beautiful.

But it is NOT guest friendly.

My suggestion is that you stay at El Colibri, and rent a room at Rocky's, or something, for other activities. You really don't want the street women in your room, going through your things, anyway. And if anything goes wrong, you just leave them there and go home. Chances are, they won't know where you are really staying.

And even if they did, they wouldn't be allowed on the property anyway at El Colibri.
