I know apples are grown in Constanza but I know nothing about the farms there. On friday I went to the chocolate factory in Altamira which made me think of this.

When i was younger i liked to go Apple Bobbing (AB). I consider myself a professional Apple Bobber. A lot of people do not realize that apples are less dense than water. they will always float up to the surface if enough financial motivation or incentive is introduced. i try and catch the "Apples" with my teeth. using the hands is not allowed and usually, if played correctly, ones hands is tied behind one's back. this makes the game more interesting. In Scotland, its called "Dooking." In Ireland, County Kerry, it's called "Snap Apple" (SA). In Newfoundland and Labrador, they call it "Snap Apple Night," (SAN). My friends and i call it (TA).

Everyone seems to have their own version of Apple Bobbing, and with their own affectionate nick-names.

The game dates back to when the Romans conquered Britain. They brought with them an apple tree, a representative of the Roman god Pomona.

I think what everyone is trying to say is that apples don't do well in hot tropical climates.

I remember paying a buck for one apple in the DR many years ago. Just because they were so expensive I had to have one :)

They do grow apples and grapes in Constanza but I don't think there are farms where anyone can go apple picking like in the states.

They really grow apples in Constanza? I never saw them there, not even for sale. So how come they are so bloody expensive over here?

Not doubting you, just wondering why, if grown here, they charge you 25rds for an apple.

And I have never seen them on a back of a truck, or on a foodstall either.

Yes, they do. You can find them at supermarkets. They're usually smaller and cheaper. But yes, most of the apples you'll find are imported. Local production is not that high.

Apples are best picked after the first frost of the year.
Does anyone know when that actually happens?

Frost? Here?

Hell, I used to live in Jarabacoa and when temps went down below 19 degrees centigrade, we fired up the fireplace... lol
