Arajet, the leading Dominican Republic-based airline, is poised to challenge US carriers for the coveted US travel market. Once the Constitutional Court and the Senate clear the Open Skies Agreement between the Dominican Republic and the United States, Arajet will be free to compete directly with major US airlines.

The Open Skies Agreement marks a significant milestone for Dominican aviation, eliminating route monopolies and allowing airlines to operate freely between the two countries. This development is expected to increase competition, leading to lower fares and more travel options for consumers.

Two weeks ago I flew from Santiago to Medellin, Colombia with Arajet with my wife and their service was pretty good. As it is only a short flight there was no in flight entertainment system but that is OK as it was only 2 hours and 15 minutes. We enjoyed Medellin so much that we decided to go back this Christmas with our daughters. All in it cost U$1800 including the top add on package they offer (includes carry on suitcase, personal item up to 6kg, checked luggage, priority boarding etc.) so for U$450 per person return that is a great price! Would be good to see them starting flights to the US and possibly even Canada in the future. On another note, some of you may not know this, but long term parking at Santiago airport is very cheap. 8 days parking cost me 2050 pesos...that's just U$35!!
