Are you married to a Dominican man?

I have read very carefully the other thread "Are you married to a Dominican woman", and, as a woman, I would like to know if the opposite is possible. Could some European or American ladies be married to a Dominican man and make a "real" family? Which are the specific problems they have in their relationship? Is the difference of culture or incomes very important? I think this would be very interesting to know.

Happily married and doing well

Hi, I live with my husband here in England and everything is going well. The hardest part is one partner having to adjust to a new country and surroundings, England is a far cry from the DR - but it is possible to adjust and make a new life. We don't have many issues with culture, my husband was working withing 2 of getting here and has happily taken everything in his stride. Like I say the hardest part is the being a new country which is completely different from what you are used to, we don't gather on streets here and chat, although I hate to say it, the English are a unsocialble race unless we're drunk LOL (well I guess our unfortunate weather has a lot to do with it ;) )

Problems are what you make them, we believe that relationships are about understanding eachother and working with one another to achieve what you want as a couple. Being from different cultures hasn't by any means been negative on our relationship but enriched both of us as individuals. We both have a better perspective of life and what it has to offer and what is important and what is not.

Great question

This is a great question. I am very interested in hearing responses. I hope they have some value. It is important to realize the cultural differences when marrying...and I can't even imagine the adjustment to a totally different country. Those who have been successful, and even those who weren't...please enlighten us to the challenges one may face!

Ok ladies go ahead and post in this thread if you are MARRIED to a Dominican man. I promise to delete anyone posting anything that isn't their story or anyone that makes a negative comment about any story.

Thanks

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been married?

Thanks,

I've heard and read a lot of stories on here about women marrying/dating Dominican men and the men moving to the countries where their wives are from. What about women married to Dominican men, and live in the DR? Any stories?

I have been married to my husband going on 11 yrs in June. We have had several problems but manage to work them thru. I have moved most of my stuff to DR and will soon be living there full time.<San Fransico De Marcoris> I came back to the US to work till Dec. I am an over the road truck driver and I make in 6 months more money than my husband does in one year. We met in New York in 1994 and married in 1995. We lived there in Washington Hgts till 1998. We had a difficult time and I left to Florida he went to DR. We got back together several months later but he couldn't come back to the US and I refused to do his "green card" for him so we had a long distance relationship for the most part. Because of the kind of job I have I can travel there whenever I want and have made several trips a year. I have finally finished the house we have with everything I wanted it to have and am now working to have a savings so I will not have to work there. I find the area we live in nice and somewhat safe but it is nothing like the US and it took me a while to get used to the way things are there. I just got back this month. While I was there last month we filled out papers so that I can be naturalized. All in all we are stronger now than when we first met. We used to work hard at our marriage now we just live it.

This is so nice. When women get together and form a thread, the posts are cordial, helpful and respectful. Men OTOH form mudslinging contests, hurl epithets, and slander each other ad infinitum.

Thankfully, yours truly isn't like that.

We have been married for 2 years and have a 7 month old son. It was hard for my husband at first cause he was missing his family and friends. And also our cold Canadian winters. But now it's better he still misses his family but he phones them whenever he wants and we visit them once a year.

I have a dominican boyfriend, we are not married yet, but are planning to in the beginning of 2007.
Anyway i hear a lot of people say, that a dominican girl with a european/american guy moving to the home country of the guy is turning out good in most cases, the other way around is a lot more difficult (at least that's what they say) Personally I dont believe that...
