Pensions in the national pension plan end up being about 25% of the last wage made. The amounts are not enough to cover costs of those who retire after years in a job. But a growing privileged few are getting comfy pensions from the state itself.

Diario Libre reports that in 2023, the Abinader administration approved 19,184 solidarity pensions. The government has paid out RD$8.68 billion in pensions over the past four years.

There are now 51,921 beneficiaries of the government special pensions. This is up from 16,112 in 2021.
