It is on the water, and very peaceful. The rooms are old though, and sometimes there is no electric. At least this was the case about two years ago, when I stayed there.

The price should be about $40-50 a night.

I've stayed there for at least a day or 2 on probably 10 different DR trips, and would highly recommend it as a remarkably tranquil place with spectacular views of the bay. Few ammenities (no AC, TV or phone in rooms but they do have wifi in the lobby) Last time I was there I believe I paid 1300RD for my room. Nice lobby restaurant overlooking the bay as well and a small beach which is calm and great for swimming. No website, and I can't find the phone number, but I've always been able to get a room w/o reservation.

They have a planta, but I don't think they use it during the day, so there are times you are w/o power.

Try sending an email to Lise and Gaston at bahia.blanca.dr@codetel.net.do

We tried to have lunch at the Bahia Blanca one time.... after telephoning for a chef with no luck for over a 1/2 hour, we left.
The place was empty and didn't look in very good shape.

I would be careful there.

La Catalina is 20 minutes away in Cabrera..... no on site beach, but very nice.

It's basic, not bad. There is a big difference.

You may be right... but a chef in the kitchen is basic to a hotel.

There was an old long haired Swiss(?) woman on the desk.... very nice, but ineffective.
The site is spectacular.... and for sale.... with the right people and money, it could be outstanding.

As it is now.... my visit says, buyer/visitor beware!!

The lady at the desk was probably Lise, she and her husband Gaston own the hotel. As Anon said, its basic but far from bad. Lise and Gaston have been talking about selling for a while now. They're getting a little older and I can imagine that they're ready to retire. They manage the hotel well, though, and I have always had a nice visit. I wouldn't let the absence of the chef put you off too much.

You can go a short distance to Cheo's restaurant and have some really fresh fish, shrimp, and lobster to eat. This hotel is nice for the serenity and the view.

All in All a real pleasure to stay there

Tranquility plus. Lise could not be any nicer. I highly recommend the Bahi Blanca!

I would recommend the hotel, it's in beautiful place on the rocks over the bay. I would also recommend the cocktails - if expensive - but not the food. I was staying there one time and asked to use the kitchen - normally I have my own appartment. I cooked crab linguine and shared it with the owner who offered the job of chef at 10,000 pesos a month! No wonder the food is crap and they can't get the cooks. Stay there and eat at D'Franks by the park. Basic? no aircon but there is usually a breeze and as I say it's in a great place.
