Hi all. My hubby and I are going to this hotel in January of 2000. Could anyone give us some hints of what to expect. Can you drink the water, I have heard conflicting stories. Have even heard that the salads could be a problem since they are washed in local water. Say it isnt so ! We are staying in the Hacienda rooms and are expecting to have a great time. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I was at the Bahia Principe in Nov '97. It was the best holiday I ever had!!! The hotel is really awesome and the staff is great!!! As for the water: As long as you're a bit careful (e.g. don't take ice in your drinks, only drink water out of bottles...) you should be fine. That's what we did, and we had no problems (not with salad either). I'm definitely going back there again!

Enjoy your stay! Rob.

Stephanie, I know several clients of mine that stayed there and they were VERY happy..no problems with food or water..they serve bottled water only and wash salads in purified water as well. Also unless there has been built a same name hotel overnight I think the only Hotel Bahia Principe is near Rio San Juan approx. 1 hour east from Puerto Plata airport not even in the Province of Puerto Plata but the Province of Espaillat. Puerto Plata airport is the closest so you will enter there and they bus you to the hotel. I am sure you will enjoy it. Try and get out of the hotel sometime and enjoy the countryside. There is a lagoon boat tour in Rio San Juan through the Mangroves and to a beach where they cook lobster.

Stephanie,

I have been to the Bahia Principe twice and will be going back again in April. It is a great resort- I have gone in groups of over 20 and nobody has ever gotten sick from the food or the water- now the alcohol is another story- sometimes people drink a little too much.

If you have anu specific questions feel free to e-mail me at kimdel@hotmail.com

Only heard good comments re this Hotel... go and have a good time. Re water.... and ice cubes... water is provided in sealed bottles and all ice cubes provided in hotels are from purified water... the only ice cubes that are not from purified water is the one that you find in the country side where they chopped the ice ... made in plastic bags... and this ice is very noticible.... All hotels, restaurants etc... on the north shore have been using purified ice cubes for years.... People should not worry about this... very often they are sick ... but not from ice ... but may from too many Banana Mamas... and Pina Coladas... as the coconut milk or water is a natural lexative... take it from an ex-destination reprensentative and now operting Sofy's B&B in Puerto Plata.... Cheers... enjoy our island!
