My wife went to Banco Popular in Cabarete yesterday.

Instead of just standing in line, now they have a system where you enter your Cedula number and choose the type of business you have at the bank.

You get printed slip with your number, and wait for that number to be called.

Anyone notice this change at other Banco Popular offices?

What if you don't have a cedula?
combination retina scan, fingerprint scan and facial recognition confirmation. After all it is Cabarete. By the way is the bitcoin store still in operation.

You can use your passport. As an account holder, my passport is the go-to document. Also, if you have an account, you can schedule an appointment online with the offices using this system - I've taken advantage of that on several occasions

This has been in practice in the Popular branch in Sosua for a while. I have not yet had to test the system, but they're going to need to put in more sofas for the not-very-happy looking customers who are waiting. But that might come under "customer service," so it's not going to be a priority. And I don't know about the courtesy line formerly available to the pregnant, handicapped, and elderly. Let's just say I am not in any hurry to test.

Put in a rnc from a business than you get attended faster by the system as a Company account client. The person that will attend you has no access to the Data that you entered to get the ticket. Use any RNC from a big fereteria or supermarket (it's on every bill).

Banco Popular had its 60th anniversary on January 2. I think that's the oldest privately owned bank in the DR.

It does have the most fees of Dominican banks, but you don't get that big by being the worst.
actually yes you do in the DR. Ferreteria Americana was one of the best examples of this. By far worst service and extremely expensive. Was for more than 2 decades the biggest Ferreteria in the country. Finally the went broke last year.

Ferreteria Americana demise was due to mismanagement. If it wasn't for that, they would still exist.

Banco Popular is actually included every year as one of the best places to work in the DR and it has been featured many times as one of the best banks in the DR. Their size isn't a coincidence since it's a fully privately owned bank with no protections from the government.

"Ferreteria Americana demise was due to mismanagement. If it wasn't for that, they would still exist." So you are actually confirming my Point: A lousy company can become number one in the DR. And sure Popular is a good employer, with all the money they steal from their clients they can pay a lot of $ for a little work. But they are loosing market share every year. Just wait and soon BHD will become Number One. and than they will behave exaxtly as Popular today LOL.

lol Banco Popular has assets of about US$13.3 billion vs BHD at about US$9.5 billion. Popular has about 21% of the Dominican market while BHD around 15%.

I still prefer BHD. I have accounts in both for business purposes and having to do the figure print...etc. for every deposit sent to somebody else is annoying. I am friends with the regional manager of Banco Popular (former student of ours) and he doesn't agree with some of their policies either. I just did a large online transfer from BHD to Bank Reservas . Very easy and secure.
