Guys,

Also, what is the time frame of opening up the bank account?

From the time of meeting with the bank officer, to the time of actually opening the account?

Let me put my ESL skills foward and translate the OP question.

How long does it take to open a bank account?

I hope the answer is not more than 2 hours.

mountainannie understood the question, no translation was needed. Time is relative in the DR. Also not known is whether the OP will have the documents the bank he wants to open the account in requires, which might be a letter from a bank in his own country where he had an account.

Personal account or business account???

Personal with the needed documents - 2 hours.

Business - with all the needed documents - 1 week and up.

I suppose it may vary between banks, DMV, but what documents besides a passport and bank reference from your home country bank are banks typically requesting?

Muchisimas gracias!

a lot of them request 3 references from Dominicans actually holding an account in that particular branch, especially in the non-expat areas. Normally 2 will suffice, if you have a Claro, Edenorte, Orange, cable, or whatever account in your name.

Banco Popular, 2 references of people who live in the country and hold bank accounts, passport/cedula, lecy or cable bill + RD500. Bish, bash, bosh, job done!
