Barcelo Bavaro Palace/Beach OR Melia Paradisus?

I am a travel agent and am planning my honeymoon in the Dominican Republic due to the great deals and fantastic reviews I have been hearing from clients. Here's my question: Currently, I'm booked w/ Apple Vacations into the Barcelo resort complex (I don't know quite which one, since it's a "run-of-complex" booking; I may end up w/ the Palace, Casino, Beach, Garden, who knows.) In reading the reviews on this website and Debbies Dominican Travel, it seems like the Melia properties, in particular the Paradisus and the Melia Bavaro All-Suite Resort, may be a bit better. Is there anyone who has been to BOTH and can tell me which is better? Any comments from seasoned Punta Cana travellers regarding which resort stands out as best? It's hard to judge from promotional literature the true quality of the resort...

I was at the melia caribe and melia tropical(same resort)
in july, and is a beatiful place.Love the many choices of
restaurant.

The Melia resorts are slightly higher quality. There is more to do at the Bavaro resorts. I suggest the Melia Paradisus.

Have been to Bavaro Resort (Beach Hotel) four times in last 12 years. The beach is great, resort very clean and the staff is pleasant! They cater to Europeans as they comprise at least 60% of the guests. The balance is abt 30% Canadian and 10% American. You must be open to a new experience when visiting the DR. Do not expect Aruba and you will enjoy. The food is a little differnt, surely not gourmet, but there is always something for everyone. The price is great- have gone for as little as 699. all inclusive. Can't beat that!From Boston. Go to Bavaro- you'll love it.
