Which Bars/Clubs near Zona Colonial have "local" live entertainment? I would like to know of a couple of places where you can sit, have a few drinks and listen to some live music. Preferably something within walking distance of Hotel Mercure.

Isn't there someone on this board who enjoys sipping a cold one and listening to a local live band?

se depende

Like with anything, it all depends. Do you mean a live tipico merengue group? If that's what you want -- three guys playing classic merengue, you can walk down the block, sit at an outdoor table in el parque colon and drink all the cold beer you want. Sooner or later, a merengue trio will stroll over and play just for you. Similarly most nights along the malecon there are strolling merengueros and many cold beers.

Or do you want something more formal... a live band with a stage show, etc? Do you want jazz, rock, bachata? It all depends.

Thanks, now we are getting close. Minus the rock and you have an idea of what I am looking for. I found a place on the net called Doubles Bar which is close to what I am looking for but it seems they play rock and cater to the younger tourist crowd. The best comparision would be something like a small jazz club in the states.

The bar at the Hotel Santo Domingo used to have live jazz clubs that were very good and the atmosphere was nice. Not sure if they still do. Need to get back there. If you find a place like that let me know too.

This sounds just like the type of place I am looking for. Anything with a nice atmosphere and no rock music would suit me.

Hi,

you can check also the Restaurant and Bar Guide
http://www.809guia.com
www.809guia.com
o in Spanish Guia de Restaurantes y Bares en Santo Domingo.

dommike67, Considering once I say Hola and Como Esta I am basically finished talking Spanish. I was able to fumble around the site and found quite a few nice places I am sure to visit next week.

One question, Pat'e Palo Restaurant mentioned Musica en Vivo Plaza Espana on Saturday night. Is the music played throughout the Plaza or just at their restaurant? That sounds like what I am looking forl.

Thanks for the link.
