We are totally new to this, but are interested in taking our family to the NE DR Coast for a week around Christmas (21-28, or so) this year. We are looking for a place where we all (3 couples + 2 singles + 1 2-year old) can stay in one place (or could be two places next door), with kitchen facilities, but definitely directly on the beach or, at most, a real 5 minute walk. We have had little luck looking online. Any suggestions would be *most* appreciated!

Check out

Dominican Republic condos for rent, apartments and townhouses rentals & sale in Sosua

However, they might be already book for that week. Careful. That week is the most expensive of the year.

Other than that, I would suggest renting a large house. SeaHorse Ranch might be a good possibility,

Here is another condo option

Millennium Resort & Spa in Cabarete, Dominican Republic

If you let us know more what you have in mind....how much you can spend....what you would like to do on your vacation....do you need to be near restaurants, grocery store....will you have a car. I am sure those on this board will be able to give you more direction. There are several rental agencies, but I would recommend starting by looking at each development's web page.

Good luck. Hope you can make it happen.

When you say NE coast, do you mean the Samana peninsula? What towns specifically are you looking at?

Ah, yes, AlterEgo. He DID say NE Coast. I guess 6 am is too early for me to respond! To the OP, my response was for the Cabarete-Sosua area, not the NE coast. Disregard it. Sorry.

Thanks, folks. I'm not totally fixed on the Samana peninsula, but it did seem to have what we wanted. We'd like a place directly (if possible) on the beach, not have a car (or use it rarely), and likely cap out at $3000 for the week. We'd plan to do our own food (or maybe spring for a chef to do it for us), so restaurants aren't all that important, so long as there are some places to get food within striking distance.

Any suggestions would be *greatly* appreciated. A reference to a rental agency would also be helpful

I do know it is late in the game and that is an expensive week, but it's the only one that works for all of us teachers.

try vrbo.com we used to have a cottage in Michigan and listed it on vrbo and we had excellent renters that came back yearly. We also found a place to rent in Cabrera on that site and it was exactly as it was advertised. Put in Samana Dominican Republic try Las Terrenes also

Note for renting villas in Las Terrenas.. for anywhere except Playa Ballena, you will need a car for transport.

Playa Coson is actually quite dangerous, without protection from a reef and often with a undertow, It is not for inexperienced swimmers. It can be buggy. There are no restaurants or anywhere to walk to.

Playa Bonita is a lovely cove but not that many houses to rent right on the beach. There are some good restaurants in that neighborhood. It is quiet and lovely.,

Note that all the beaches are public, None of the houses have their "own" beaches..

There may be some places that have cooks available but I doubt that there are "chefs" .. the village of LT has some very good restaurants.. the best, really, on the island.
