Goya, Famosa, Linda..but I do not use canned beans (actually do not make beans all that much) because they contain too much sodium. If (rarely) I make beans it is with dry/fresh beans.

The best way to go. The night before in water, poor out the water, fresh water and boil them. I add mostly a piece of bacon to have more flavour.
Do not soak them with salt, and not longer than 24 hours.

Great input
I agree, that's really great input. I love my Goya beans without sodium!

Then again, I never cook beans, I have Doña Fela for that.

On second thought, maybe not so great input.

We all need salt each day. Especially when it is really hot outside and one is perspiring lots. It is possible to meet your daily salt intake with just the sodium added to foods you buy in the grocery store. Read the label to find out how much salt is in your can of beans. It is the salt shaker on the table that can easily put you over the top. Also Many restaurants add a lot of salt to the dishes they offer.

For dry beans, soaking in clean unsalted water before boiling is all that is needed as per the instructions on the package. .

For me canned foods just have too much sodium. I have bought canned items that contain "no sodium" but if I can make it "fresh" that is my preference over canned. On DR1 we have talked many times about the sodium/salt in the DR diet.

Salt...got to be in the top three of health killers.

Heinz pork and beans with wieners added, served on toast.
As the Brits call it "Skin heads on a raft"
If you can find maple flavored it's even better. (Canadian touch)

Every time I see Bush's beans at Jumbo I buy all of them. I could eat them every day.

I grew up eating Libby's beans, and they are still my favorite. Goyo canned black beans and red beans are both decent.
I agree. Goya products are very good. They also make a Paella I could eat every day of the week.

I think Rey has his answers on canned beans wherever he may be buying them. We can close this chapter about beans.
