I need some recommendations for the best croissants on the north coast. My daughter loves croissants but after a recent trip to Paris she has now become very picky, in fact it is fair to say that she is now a croissant snob! The ones in Playero are so so and Belgian bakery in Cabarete is about the best we can find so far but they still don't come close to 'real croissants'. If anyone has found any real butter croissants then please let me know.....merci!!

Best I have tried in entire DR is at Boulangerie Francaise in Las Terrenas (Calle Principe). Beautifully flaky, airy, light and not doughy. Speaking from experience croissants are difficult to make in hot tropical climates without air conditioning.

Moulin de Paris bakery in Puerto Plata (just before the rotary at Jumbo, on the right coming from Sosua) is amazing. I concur with recommendations for Dolci e Sapori, and Steven restaurant on Calle Sin Salida also has excellent croissant.

El Hijo de Manolo

It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous!

Moulin something (not sure if de Paris) delivers to Janet's every morning except Sunday. The croissants are decent. They do ciabatta, baguette and some other rolls... All quite good.

The issue with BB, in my experience, is they don't have enough turnover and like to slip day-olds into the next day's line up. In Janet's they may do this too, but there's enough fresh inventory daily you just pick one from behind. You need to know your breads to make sure you don't pick up a day-old!

Yes, they also deliver to Playero and they are not too bad. Their breads are good and I buy their ciabatta and baguettes on a regular basis. Going to get some crosissants from Dolci e Sapori tomorrow.

Fresco del Horno
La Boulangerie
Del Jardin
La Campagna (they're santiagueros but they have an amazing spot in Santo Domingo, too)
Le Croissant Dore
I'm curious about Le Croissant Dore. There is a croissan d'or in Cap Haitien. It was a great place to go and I went there almost daily for a while. I'm wondering if it's just a name similarity or are they owned by the same folks.

I like chocolate crossoint, the ones in playero are not too bad, but after eating I feel some strange sticky residue in my mouth, I think it may have to do with the oil they use, has anyone had it, could this be a wrong margarine or butter they use ...!? Or something else...

Come to think of it, it could be due to chocolate..!

Hi all, for those of you the suggested Dolci e Sapori were spot on. I went this morning on the way to dropping off my daughter at school. They are the best I have had on the north coast in the 20 years that I have lived here and my daughter is now extremely happy!!!
