Best hotel for family 1 night stay

Visiting the Dominican Republic in March with wife and 3 kids, ages 12 through 8. I want to overnight in Santo Domingo before we drive up to Las Galeras for the week - any suggestions on a good hotel in Santo Domingo for 2 adults and 3 kids near the historical distric?

When you say historical district I take it you mean La Zona Colonial and the Gazcue neighborhood? That being the case I would highly recommend the Jaguar Apart Hotel in the Gazcue Neighborhood. I wrote a hotel review in the dr1 Hotel section, complete with the address and phone number. The place is very clean, the owner and staff are super friendly, and it centrally located within walking distance to the Malecon [casinos] and about a 10 minute walk to the Zona Colonial. There is also a great restaurant [24 hours] a block and a half away. Good luck

If you're looking for an International hotel, The best deal is probably the Jaragua which is a Renaissance/Marriott. It's directly on the Malecon (Ocean) and walking distance to the Colonial Zone. Rooms in the older (garden) section are often around $89 with a lavish buffet breakfast/brunch for two. Before booking anywhere, confirm the price you're quoted includes all taxes.
