I was just wondering if it is difficult for Dominicans to cross the boarder into haiti for the day. I am trying to get a flight to the dominican throught a relative at a discount because she works at an airport but all flights to the dominican are sold out. I can go to haiti but i want my boyfirend to pick my up. He lives in the dominican. Does anyone know if it would be easy for him to drive across the boarder from there and pick me up at the airport in haiti. I don't know where to ask and i need to know. Thank you so much!!!!

Between one thing and another

That should cost about $200 dollars US.

He has to get a visa to enter Hait?. He has to pay the Exit Tax to cross the border. It is a 5 to 6 hour drive (+/-). If he has a car that will take a lot of gasoline at $2.00 a gallon, if taking a rental, it will be a lot more.

Can it be done? Yes. Expensive...for sure

Amended to say: Surely there is a flight to somewhere in the DR?
La Romana, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Santiago?? Besides Santo Domingo??

Try other routes - San Juan, for example

It is not the safest place in the world to fly into (one of the worst airports in the west) or to drive 5 or 6 hours through to pick you up and as pointed out it ain't cheap. can you fly to Puerto Rico then to Santo Domingo? There are a lot of flights between PR and the DR. Or via MIA, BOS, JFK, EWR, PHL.

Also note I said the DR, "the Dominican" is your boyfriend not the name of the country, which is the Dominican Republic or for the sake of typing the DR will do. You don't live in "the United" do you?

I presume they may give him a visa but they might not, you know.

Why don't you post when you are travelling and from where? I cannot believe there are no flights.

Hi cmchale,

A round trip ticket from Haiti to Santo Domingo Herrera Airport with CARIB AIR will cost you US$185.00 + US$30.00 departure tax you will also pay US$20.00 departure tax from Herrera Airport to Haiti when leaving Santo Domingo and it's a 20 minutes flight. I use this service frequently from Santo Domingo transit in Haiti to Montreal Canada.

I think so far this could be the fastest and easiest way to Santo Domingo. No need to drive 6 hours crossing the Haitian border.

Good luck!

I just re-read this post

And judging from what this person has written, I don't think that there are enough brains up there to have looked at alternative flights. Her "dominican boyfriend" a.k.a. entertainment staff at some hotel in the "dominican" is not going to go to Hait? to pick her up. In what?

There are multi daily flights from SJU to POP, STI, SGQ, La Romana and Punta Cana. There are seats available to Santiago and POP, as well as other destinations. One seat is always available.

Naw, this gal just is not that bright...

It appears that the lady has contacted a lazy travel agent who doesn't really want to do a long search for the best/cheapest/most convenient way to get to te DR and is quoting the first thing that pops up on their screen.
go to several 'travel agencies' and get several different quotes, making a reservation with each for the best they have. then select the one you really want and cancel the others.
that is the method i've always used and it always works to my advantage.

WARNING!!!!!!

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS.

RENTAL CARS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CROSS INTERNATIONAL BORDERS, ESPECIALLY THE DOMINICAN/HAITIAN BORDER DUE TO STATISTICS THAT HAVE SHOWN THAT OVER HALF OF ALL STOLEN DOMINICAN CARS END UP IN HAITI. JUST BE WARE. IF YOU'RE BOYFRIEND IS GOING TO PICK YOU UP IN A RENTAL, THE CAR WON'T GO BEYOND DAJABON, OR JIMANI OR PEDERNALES, OR ELIAS PINA. ALL POSSIBLE CROSSING POINTS.

that is good information

Thank you for that news, and i can surely understand why. But not to worry, her boyfriend"does not have a credit card to rent a car, nor the moola to get to the border in other than a bus.

At least I am betting on this scenario...

Just being a wise a$$....

But I'll bet on it...
