Has anyone stayed at the Boca Chica Beach Resort? How does it compare to Hamaca Resort? Any info deeply appreciated.

There are 3 all inclusive hotels in B. C. The Hamaca is rated the best, then Don Juan, and then the B. C. Hotel. I think it all depends on what you want to spend. All three are nice. Don Juan and Hamaca are directly on the beach, while the B. C. has a cat walk to the beach.

The Hamaca is the most expensive (I've never stayed there, so I don't know if it's worth the extra)...I do have experience with both the Boca Chica and the Don Juan and the Boca Chica is better. They're both about the same price.

Most of the guest are European but there is a mixture also. When are you planning on going down? The food is your average buffet style with an Italian and French rest. on the property.

Yes... a catwalk to the beach and once there they pack them in like sardines inside their enclosed area. Why don't you check out the Zapata Hotel next door. I paid $40/night for two of us in a nice quiet clean, friendly atmosphere. It's right on the beach beside the B.C. Resort. They have a nice little restaurant. We had a great time!

Others have recommended the Zapata. Wondering if it is too quiet. Would enjoy spending some time poolside with other guests. By the way, how are the grounds at Boca Chica Resort? Just sounds like the extra $25/pp/night is well worth it for meals/drinks/etc. BUt then again I'm unaware as to how inexpensive meals and drinks are elsewhere. Is it true that guests staying at another resort can not visit you at your resort (say spend an afternoon poolside)?

No pool... just one of the best beaches and beautiful waters I've been to.... for $40 a night per room! Clean, comfortable, friendly, relaxing etc. For us spending around $2000 for a week at an all-inclusive vrs. $280 for a lovely room at the Zapata plus airfare... well, we don't eat and drink approx. $800.00 a week! Especially at D.R. prices! But, you perhaps have to be a bit more adventurous to take advantage of the savings. It's not for everyone but it's good to know there are alternatives. That's the great thing about this Board!

The ZApata won't quote you a guarantee for less than $40.00 perp person, even though they advertise $25. They say they NEVER give $25 rates, $30 is for SPECIAL customers and $35 for one month or more.

You've all been extremely informative. How close is the Zapata to Boca Chica Resort? In other words can you walk the beach (reasonable distance) and end up near the BC resort? Since BC resort is not on a beach I assume the closest beach is public..or do they have a private section.

Absolutely incredible...Boca Chica Beach Resort quoted me a price of $100/night for two during mid-April. Hamaca resort much more expensive at $250/night for two. HOWEVER, I called a travel agent who can book us at the Hamaca for $566 (total, including all taxes) for 4 nights. That's about $140/night...a far cry from the $250 quote I received from calling the hotel direct. Decisions, decisions.

Hi TCB...It's been over a year since I've stayed there, but I recall there was a wide variety of food to choose from. I really enjoyed the breakfast because they made eggs any style you wanted right there in front of you. I always had lunch down at the beach BBQ...it was always good too. One thing I can tell you for sure is that the food is better at the Boca Chica than the Don Juan.
If you decide to go with the Zapata (which it right beside the Boca Chica beachclub) I can tell you of a restaurant where you can have a wonderful home cooked Dominican meal for two and a cerveza grande for about 100 pesos. It's called the "Caulderon".
Boca Chica resort has 2 pools and the rooms are quite comfortable. Just don't get stuck along the east edge of the resort unless you want to rise with the roosters at 5 a.m....and if you are stuck there just ask for another room.
If you want to meet Dominicans, you won't meet them on the Hamaca's beach. It's entirely closed off from the rest of the beach.

I think the differance between the B. C. Resort and Zapata will be your choice whether you want to eat with the locals, go to the beach with locals and experience their culture, or, stay at the B. C. Resort and have all meals, entertainment, drinks, right there for you. Both are very nice hotels, but very different in what they offer.
