Current lowest available all-inclusive walk-up rates for Boca Chica Resort at this time of year are RD$775 per person (about US$50), two per room, each additional person RD$500. Slightly higher for the Don Juan and just under double that for the Hamaca. I was able to exchange at $RD15.8/US$1. Rates in Boca Chica at the bigger hotels usually drop starting May 1.
Most small hotels charge between US$25 and US$45 per room for two. Some have on-site food, ceiling fans, air conditioning, a pool, and locations vary from on the beach to several blocks away. Quality varies, even among multiple visits to the same property and amongst different rooms at the same property. Examples are Casa de Coco, Calypso, El Candil, La Europa, Label, Madejra, Villa Don, Mozart Guest House, Burbujas, Zapata, etc.
Reports for various properties are inconsistent enough to make specific recommendations difficult. Choose the amenities that are important and that will narrow the selection to just a few (location, air, food, etc.). I've also received many reports that the smaller hotels have lately been running at or near 100% occupancy. That should lighten up a little in the coming weeks.
