Having resigned myself to the fact that the December flights from BOS to SDQ are ridiculously priced....AND...even the flights at odd times with significant airport layovers (next day arrival etc.) are $800 and up, I began searching in January, 2009.

To my surprise I not only found flights for $385.60 with taxes, but the best part (for those who fly BOS/SDQ regularly) is, that is the pricing on the direct flght(s) 2087 and 2084. Fly and return on Wednesdays 1/21, 1/28, 2/04. 2/11. Tickets at $385.60 have since sold out on the flight leaving 1/14, but the next pricing structure is still a bargain at $435.60 with taxes.

Best of Luck.

December is always very expensive. I am finding fares for under 400 in november and january (Continental from Newark). (after taxes and fees). Doesnt really answer your question....but so far there has been no big fare spike as predicted when booking in september.

For those of us who fly BOS/SDQ, Flights 2087/2084 direct to SDQ and back are the gold standard and thus our flight(s) of choice. Depending on the season, this flight only operates 1-3 times a week, usually Wednesdays and Saturdays. It is always priced like a gold standard flight, so to find the current pricing structure in January, or any month for that matter, represents real value in dollars and time (4 hours +/- and no layovers).

We in the Boston area are not as blessed with the choice of multiple direct flights on competing carriers as those of you in the Newark/JFK area.

And yes December is always expensive, but this year is over the top. By booking early, in years passed, I have always managed to get a reasonable December flight from BOS/SDQ ($400-$600). Not so this year. I started looking in April and nothing is reasonable, unless you consider $800 and lousy connections a reasonable amount.

With the cutbacks in flights and the rising cost of jet fuel, and thus ticket prices, the January find, for me, was a pleasant surprise.

yeah...thats one of the reason i started traveing to DR. Luv the direct flight from newark (there is only one a day...they were supposed to bring back the late night flight but havent). I also am just a 10 min cab ride away from EWR. I can leave my apt at 6:00 am and be on the beach by noon.

I am surprised the rates havent climbed higher tho. Earlier in the summer they were predicting that air travel would be completely out of reach for the ordinary traveler. So far so good tho! Here it is about 20 dollars more than last year. And yeah...one has to be flexible in dates.

If you can fly last minute...i've found that the fares drop increadably low the night before at 9 pm. But of course then you risk NOT getting a fare at all.

January is still nice. I prefer to go in late february. Its a little warmer...and when i get back there is not all that much winter left here.

Looks like I may not use my BOS/SDQ Direct Business Class Tickets for next week. Due to these damn storms, I need to re-adjust my itenerary and stick around town for some relief operations. I will most likely go again in October - with a Free Ticket that I have that is about to expire.

I see that one can make a trip between BOS and SDQ with a connection in ATL on Delta. The time enroute and prices seem reasonable. Have any of you denizens of Boston gone that route and survived to provide comment?
