I am in the process of bringing my fianc? here (USA) from the DR. They have the right of free ingress & egress (free country.) As long as your guest is compliant with Canadian requirements, they are free to leave. They did have to pay a $10 departure tax, but I hear that is in some kind of legal limbo.

If the flight stops or transfers in the US, they will need a US transit visa.

Good Luck! Unless your friend has a lot of property and a sizable bank account in the DR, he won't get a visitor visa to come to Canada. They are simply not given out. Your friend can go ahead and apply through the Canadian consulate in Santo Domingo, but don't hold your breath. I've been married to my Dominican husband for over a year and Canadian Immigration is still dragging its heels over the permanent resident application. The whole process is a farce.

Applicants from the DR requesting a visitors visa to Canada must do the following:

1. Obtain and fill out an application form available at Cdn Embassy in Santo Domingo and at the Cdn. Consulate in Puerto Plata.

2. Have a valid passport. Cost is about 750 pesos.

3. Have proof of a bank account with a substantial balance so that the person has reason to return to the DR. Owning property would also help.

4. Have an extra passport photo for the visa.

5. Obtain a letter from their employer stating what they do, how long they have been working, and whether they are allowed vacation time.

6. They must have a letter of invitation from someone in Canada that states how long they have known each other, the Canadian's employment and proof of income, home, etc. and that the Canadian is willing to be financially responsible for their friend from the DR. ( I included my T4 slip, photo of house and car, photo of me with his family)

7.A bank draft, money order for 750 pesos for a one time visa or 1500 pesos for a multiple visa. (The lady at the Embassy told me to go for the one time visa first because they don't normally issue a multiple visa for a first time application)

8. Take all of the above to the Canadian Enbassy in Santo Domingo, in person only, on Monday or Thursday morning between 9am and 11am.

9. You will be told to return in 2 weeks to get your passport, papers, etc back and hopefully a visa.

Re: BRINGING A DOMINICAN TO CANADA!( Yes it works)

That's exactly what my friend Arelis and her husband Jos? did and it worked. They were granted a Canadian visitor visa within two weeks of their application and without any interview. They will be in Montreal by the end of July.

Because Arelis and Jos? are self-employed (they have a small grocery store) and to make sure their application would be well filled in they hired a lawyer. Roque Leonel Rodriguez from San Pedro de Macoris, tel:(809)476-8585 if you call from outside the Dominican Republic and (809)976-2828 calling from the Dominican Republic. I met Mr. Rodriguez (he speaks Spanish and English). In my opinion he is very knowledgeable in Canadian immigration law (he specializes in U.S.A. immigration). They provided him with all the documentation needed and he took care of everything; my friends did not have to go to the consulate.

With the letter of invitation, I included a copy of my income tax return and the T3, T4, T5,... for 1998 in order to prove that I can financially be responsible for them while in Canada.

The applicants must demonstrate to the Canadian authorities that they can afford the vacation and that they intend to return to the D.R. If it would have been a boyfriend, I suspect the visa could have been more difficult to obtain because the applicant must demonstrate that he intend to return to the D.R. in other words, he do not intend to stay in Canada.

hello, I reciently met a Dominican Man while on vacation. We hit it off right away and have been enjoying talking and writing since. We have talked about him coming to canada. However I wonder if it may be better to go to Dominica to get to know eachother better first. Does this sort of thing occur often. what is the employment like in the dominican for canadians?
