El Salvador’s newly reelected President Nayib Bukele says his teams can resolve Haiti’s security crisis. In an X commentary, he stated: “We can fix it. But we’ll need a UNSC resolution, the consent of the host country, and all the mission expenses to be covered,” he said.

The big question is who gives the consent in Haiti. Its Prime Minister Ariel Henry has not been speaking on the record since he left Haiti and traveled to Kenya to meet with President William Ruto on sending troops to Haiti.

Henry then flew to Puerto Rico, but at deadline had not been able to reach Haiti because airports in Haiti are closed. President Luis Abinader has said Henry is not welcome in the Dominican Republic for security reasons.

Caricom leaders have scheduled another summit for Monday, 11 March 2024, this time in Kingston, Jamaica. At the same time, the government of Jamaica says it is not...

What Bukele has going for him is that he knows how to handle the gang problem...

Of course there is no government in Haiti to give consent.
I'd gladly hand control to Bukele and see what happens.

"But we’ll need a UNSC resolution, the consent of the host country, and all the mission expenses to be covered,” he said."

I'm sure some countries would gladly throw money at it, to be able to stay out.
Of course this would quickly escalate into another slush fund, with nebulous accounting.

As to UNSC resolutions we know how that works, as they've been "working" on the Haitian Situation for a "while".

Fortunately countries observe the rule of law and non interference and bbq has not been assassinated.

Apparently Haitians are working out their own domestic security and economic polices,
As they have been doing with great success since the Duvalier reign.

Strangely I remember other cases in Central America, South America, Asia and even the DR where the rule of non-interference was not the case.
Indeed a strange world with National political interests we live in.

Things seem to be going well as cruise ships still are calling in Labadee, with slack jawed tourists (copy right BIG) enjoying their private resort sipping cocktails.
Maybe buying T-shirts with the caption......I survived Haiti.
One of the obscenities of life, or business as usual.

Labadee is far removed from the turmoil in the south and even in okap. I couldn't stomach it but for some, ignorance is bliss.

Bukele may or may not be able to fix Haiti, but he has something most others don’t have: experience turning things around in a relatively short amount of time to what once was a hopeless country mired in gangs and violence to one of peace and increasing prosperity. El Salvador is now among the world’s top 5 countries with the highest growth of international tourism. Imagine that!

He's pretty easy on ES's gang members but at least they're incarcerated for now. I'm not sure he could help Haiti. Beside, doesn't he have a country to run?
Right. Despite the claim that he has solved everything I am sure there are still tons of problems in El Salvador.

Please remember that the topic is Haiti and El Salvador.

Discussion of other locations is off topic.

It would be like the blind leading the blind. I don’t think he fully comprehends the depth of the problems in Haiti.

If he went and applied the same strict justice he brought in to El Salvador the whiny crowd would say he's abusing the Haitian gangsters. Tough love often means prison for life or a lunch of plumo al la rifle

"Barbecue" rejects intervention by foreign forces in Haiti: "We are not afraid"

"We are not afraid. We are not afraid of anyone. We are in the weapons business. These are the weapons we carry. We were born one day, we will die one day," he warned.

This Monday the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince looked calm, but there were new threats from the coalition of armed gangs Vivre Ensemble (Living Together), which rejected the negotiations of the international community to find a way out of the serious crisis that is shaking the country. .
Stating that his coalition is "launching a battle to free (the country) from the clutches of traditional politicians and corrupt oligarchs", the gang's powerful boss, Jimmy Cherizier, alias 'Barbecue', called on the international community to "give Haiti a chance."
"What is happening in the country depends on us, Haitians, to decide who should lead the country, what form of government we want and how we are going to get the country out of the misery in which it finds itself," declared 'Barbecue' in a press conference after a show of force at its base in the capital.
The Caribbean Community (Caricom) and the United States insisted this Monday on the need to accelerate a political transition in Haiti and deploy a multinational force, to which Washington committed an additional 100 million dollars.
At the end of the meeting, held in Kingston, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, the current president of Caricom and president of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, showed themselves " optimistic."

THE GANGS WOULD TAKE OVER

According to 'Barbecue', if the international community continues along this line, it will plunge Haiti into chaos, by leading a small group of traditional politicians to elect a president and the government model for the country.
"Today it is clear that it is the people of the popular neighborhoods and the Haitian people in general who know what they are going through. It is these same people who must take their destiny in their hands to choose their leaders and how to direct them," he added. 'Barbecue' surrounded by escorts.
The former police officer stated that the people "who are going to run this country", through their coalition of armed men, demand that the Haitian people elect their leaders. And that these leaders will ensure that their wives and children are in the country.
To this he added: "It is the Vivre Ensemble coalition, together with the Haitian people, that will elect the person who will lead the country. We do not need all the ministries that exist. In the new government, many ministries will be eliminated."

VOWS TO TEAR DOWN THE SYSTEM

"Today we are going to overthrow an entire system (...). The system that exists is based on apartheid, a perverse system," added 'Barbecue', who urged the Police to stop fighting against them.
"With the misery of the people, people cannot come and share power as if it were a cake. People cannot rush to take the reins by making proposals. Where have they been all this time?" he continued.
The leader of the gang issued a warning to the multinational force for the security of Haiti, approved last October by the United Nations.
"We are not afraid. We are not afraid of anyone. We are in the weapons business. These are the weapons we carry. We were born one day, we will die one day," he warned.
"No one can scare us, making us believe that they are going to hunt us in our own country. We are children of (Jean-Jacques) Dessalines. When our ancestors fought for our independence they called us terrorists, just like today," he said.

WILL ATTACK HOTELS

In his press conference, the gang leader promised to attack the country's hotels.
"We have not come here to lie to the people and tell them that we are making a peaceful revolution. We are not making a peaceful revolution. We are making a bloody revolution in the country," he declared.
"To all the hotel managers who take the malicious pleasure of hiding traditional politicians, we are reaching them little by little," he said, citing the names of well-known hotels that usually accommodate foreigners.
'Barbecue' expanded its threat. "We will solve this 'problem' by all means."
"Woe to any hotel that hides a traditional politician who has collaborated with (Haitian Prime Minister) Ariel Henry!" he threatened.

The hotels better have good insurance.

About an hour ago 2 big people carrying helicopters flew over and landed at the Military Base on Av España along with a few small military helicopters. About 10 minutes the traffic was stopped and 2 black official jepetas sped by accompanied by a few motor police and jepetas with lights. My first thought was it has something to do with evacuating important humans from Haiti.
