?Caballa!

~~~ Let me take a guess at this, you are reading this message for one of three reasons: you clicked on it by mistake, you read every post on DR1, you recognized that it was posted by CES and sometimes read his posts, you don't speak Dominican Spanish and thought the message would explain the meaning of "caballa". OK then, . . . you've just finished reading some "caballa". The literal translation of the word is, a horse talking, in other words if a horse were to speak his oratory would be in the context of his day to day existence, his conversation might not make much sense to humans or be of any interest. On the other hand some of his listeners would fall on his every word. Let's see, another explanation would be this, imagine a group of office workers gathered around a water cooler just hanging out shooting the breeze (casual conversation, nothing of much importance), or possibly a very lively and animated discussion of some big event in the day's news. Up walks ol' CES, he starts talking and all of a sudden folks are politely excusing themselves, "I've just have a ton of work today, got to run" and everyone scatters, do you get the picture? My wife sez' that I'm "caballa" when I ramble on about something that's currently the hot topic on DR1. For the new readers out there, Mrs. CES is "un Cibae?a" a lady from the "old school" traditions that dictated what is considered as "proper" (acceptable as seen by the quote/ unquote educated class, and I don't mean just "book learn'un") public conduct. Idle gossip and speculation had no place in the public conversations of this segment of Dominican society. Now please, before you you jump all over me as some kind of elitist snob, hear me out. In her way of thinking this (participating in DR1) is a "public" conversation and every one that speaks their turn will be heard by every one else. The words that you speak (post) will be examined as to there meaning and intent, so don't say it if you don't mean it, and if you don't know the truth then don't say anything.
~~~ Some of the last two weeks worth (now roll your eyes, furrow your brow and put on a face that sez' "boring") of messages on this board have caused this very reaction from "una Cibae?a". Case in point, the 18 year old Canadian locked away in Najayo prison, at last count 74 posts and counting. If one where to gather together all information about the lad's incarceration, I expect three or four sentences would cover it. After all the messages have been posted please just remember this, it's the internet folks, any one with access to the web and a computer can dash off any damn thing they please and pass it off as the truth. Had Melissa taken the time to spell out all the facts of the case then four fifths of the thread would have never seen the light of day. Credibility has it's price, without it your story is just that, "a story" nothing more nothing less . . .

Regards,

. . . CES

ps . . . also, other message threads in this same period have their share of "caballa" . . .

Caball?, for a good example see...

>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "carol" <lorac103@hotmmail.com>

>>> " speaking as a professional"---surely you lie -are you seriously masquerading as a medical doctor down here--why-- probably because you couldn't make it back in the good ole usa" <<<

If you go to "the big book with all the words in it" and looked the word "caball?" the definition would say see "carol". I can't think of a better example to use in explaining the meaning of the word "caball?". The above quote clearly demonstrates that "carol" is TOTALLY CLUE LESS and has near zero credibility in the context of this board, in other words she is "caball?" . . . IMHO
