Hi,
does anyone know this hotel in Las Terrenas? According to german tour operators, it should have reopend in January. I can only find travel reviews from 2004. Would be nice to know, how stadard is after renovation. We already booked this hotel for our holiday during chrismas and new years eve, cause it was one of only a few hotels in this region fitting with our needs and budget (during this season).
I hope, we didn't wrong?

I was there in April of 2006. Spent two nights. Not sure if the hotel is open today.

Yes I know this hotel, is part of Ocean Arc Hotels Ocean Arc and is open, not to many tourist on premises, mainly Dominicans on long weekends when they have a special as the past weekend.
This is a 3 star hotel, don't expect much, never try the food but I visit the rooms and they are OK for a 3 star hotel. Casino is open at night and has a couple of Black Jack tables one roulette and a few dozens one arm bandit, again, don't expect much. BTW I did not see a Spa on premises, but I could be wrong.
Just enjoy your vacation, relax by the pool or at the beach, and if you have a little spirit of adventure, go and explore Samana Peninsula, you will not regreted.

I'm quite happy to hear that, I don't like tourist resorts, where you feel like beeing in europe....

That's OK for us, we do not expect luxury, it's just, that we don't come to a ruine :paranoid:

Oh yes, we will...
We have been there 4 years ago and stayed at El Portillo, so we already know a little bit of the beauty of this place. Unfortunately, I got ill after 3 days and had to stay in bed for nearly the rest of our holiday. That's why we come back now to make it good again.
(visited a very nice dominican doctor, who told me: "pocito infecci?n" at home, doctor told me it was a pneumonia. But nevertheless, the dominican doctor treated me quite good by feeding me with antibiotics).
I'm really looking forward to read more. If anyone has suggestions for parties at New Year's Eve... always welcome!
Thanks again and greetings from cold Germany.

cacao beach

HI, I stayed in Cacao beach in Sep 05, at that time it was pretty empty since it was low season.

This location is good because it's close to lots of restaurants and small shops. I thought the stay in the hotel was good for the $$. We paid $45 per person and included breakfast and dinner. The breakfast we thought was great, and dinner it was just ok. For us staying here worked out great since were in samana to explore the place and not be in the hotel 24/7.
The hotel is nicely decorated in the lobby and the Pool area is very nice. The rooms were not too new, nothing out of this world- But at least they were clean. THe rooms definetely need some upgrading/remodeling.

Caca/o Beach

HI, I stayed in Cacao beach in Sep 05, at that time it was pretty empty since it was low season....This location is good because it's close to lots of restaurants and small shops.
The last time I drove by, it looked empty.
But maybe they are just getting ready for the season...

Location is good for those who venture out to explore the town, restaurants and shops on foot.

On the other hand the hotel beach leaves to be desired and some call it 'caca beach'... (An unfavourable current can bring waters from the river mouth a few hundreds yards to the east...). The mud road between hotel and beach can be noisy (motoconchos).
But other nice beaches are not far and one can use the hotel as a base.

Playas in LT

WHICH HOTELS DO YOU RECOMMEND IN LAS TERRENAS THAT HAVE NICER BEACHES?

The further from town the cleaner.
The eastern stretch is better as winds and current bring in clean ocean waters (Punta Poppy side).

Punta Bonita Beach is my favourite although 3 miles out of town to the west (about six hotels there lined up).

Cos?n Playas further west are similar.

Choose the beach you like and then book a hotel there.

I'm getting more and more confused: some people say the hotel is open, others say there is a lot of construction work going on....
I tried to contact the hotel via the OceanArc website, but no answer. Today I noticed that OceanArc removed the hotel from their website.
The hotel description of our tour operator says, it belongs to Amhsamarina group, but again nothing on their website.
Would be very happy to get some updated information on this.
Thanks in advance.

Hotel will be open form the 15th. December on ...> Source from the Owner !

Now, I can also confirm that. Got an email from the hotel, that construction works will be finished at friday. Only our tour operator has a different opinion: they still keep on their position that renovation will START at the 19th of Dec!!!
Thus, there is something else behind....
I really recommend everyone to book things individually and not to trust the big profit-driven tour operators!! Even if it is a little bit more expensive. It will save your nerves!!

nice beaches in Las Terrenas

WHICH HOTELS DO YOU RECOMMEND IN LAS TERRENAS THAT HAVE NICER BEACHES?

To me the best - and safest - beaches are Punta Popi or the playa Colibri beach. This one is on the same road as Cacao Beach but a little further from the river - far enough to escape the pollution, and the beach is lovely - nice place for snorkling.
Try the residence Colibri, nice apparts for the price of a room, just have a check on their site Playa Colibri Hotel - Oceanfront Apartments in Las Terrenas Dominican Republic
Enjoy it !
