Hi,

I am studying in Italy and my boyfriends is having trouble calling my new italian cell phone from the DR. I had told him to dial 011 and then the number - is this wrong. Please let me know how he should call me.

thanks

PS Does anyone know any Italian phone cards that have lots of minutes???

He has to dial 001+ 809+number. It would be the same way to call the U.S. from Italy as the D.R

At the least he needs to dial 011 + the Italy country code + the city code for you + the number. Easier and a lot cheaper to use a calling booth.

Sorry, I will try again. From the D.R. 011-390 plus the city code and number.

Let him try this. A short time ago they added a zero to the 39.

I call a friend in Italy regularly from the DR.

Wasn't aware of the addition of 0 to the 39 country code; I called about 2 weeks ago using only 011 39 ... etc

Where is your boyfriend? And does he own a laptop?

The absolute best (cheapest!) way to call is with SKYPE and wireless/or broadband internet access. Broadband to broadband via computer is free, even if you talk all day.

Or, 1.7 Euros per minute via computer to home telephone. But much more to cell phone, I think .26 Euros/minute.

Before SKYPE, I used Centennial... not a bad rate to Italy, for cell phone or home phone. A rate of about US$ 8 cents/minute, and 15 cents/minute with taxes.
