Hi,

I'm traveling to the DR later this month, flying into Santiago. I was wondering if anyone has stayed at either Hotal Colonial, Hotal Platino, or Camp David Ranch. I'd like to know some more about them, including prices, how close they are to acitivities, and just general impressions. If it helps, I'm looking at a double room.

I was thinking of spending two or three days in Santiago, one/two exploring the city and one in the surrounding countryside, and then heading to the northern coast (sosua? cabarete?) for five days or so. Ideas? Suggestions?

I'd had a lot of luck looking through this board before, so thanks in advance.

Hotel Platino is a very nice clean hotel with relatively small rooms, but still very nice and close to all areas of Santiago. It will cost you about 40-50 dollars per night the phone number is 809-724-7576

Camp David is outside of Santiago in the mountains, Incredible view from hotel of Santiago especially in late afternoon and early morning. You definately have to spend 1 night in Camp David. Very large clean rooms most with balconys, Approx 50 dollars per night. The phone number is 809-276-6400

Hotel Colonial is in a rather seedy looking area especially at night, it costs 15 bucks a night and you get what you pay for a bed and very loud A/C.

PM me and i can give you more specifics.

The above information is fair

However, Colonial is now over $20. There is another option, called Alberto's Suites Aparta Hotel. Their rooms are between $27 and $32(more or less), place is quiet, centrally located, and near stuff. It has been well reviewed by a couple of posters here. 809 971 6005

Camp David is truly memorable. Major draw back is getting there since it costs about double (RD$160) for the cab ride up there.

Platino is more expensive and, to my taste, gaudy/tasteless, but to each his/her own, I suppose.

Still another opetion is Aloha Sol, on Sol Street in the heart of town. Super easy to get to and near most everything. Prices are modest, but not the least expensive. (RD$1800 p/p/) Tel: 809 581 0090

If you would like more assistance, please send me an email or a PM, and I'll try to help..

Who are you traveling with? Wife/novia- DO Camp David. Away from the city, very good restaurant. On your own or with other guys- don't bother - too far away from everything. Camp david is great for a couple to spend a day or two "reconecting."

Is everyone who posts here a guy? I thought the name Caitlin would be a tip off.... ;)

Actually, I'm traveling with my boyfriend, so I was thinking of definitely hitting up Camp David, and since it's not that much more expensive (minus the cab ride) I'm going to go for it.

Hillbilly - Thanks for the recommendations...I'll try the other place, inbetween (pricewise) Colonial and Aloja Sol
