Breakfast is pretty decent and economical. Eggs any way you want them, pancakes, crisp bacon and good coffee.

I recommend dining at Puerta Madera(? good steaks) on JP Duarte near La Plaza Internacional and then riding up the mountain for a few drinks on the balcony area.

what do ya consider pricey? like $20us for some shrimps

If I remember from last year it will be more. We ordered a shrimp scampi plate I believe. Unfortunately, apart from being expensive it wasn't really not as good.

Great seafood can be had en Los Jardines near Hillbilly's house at La Bahia. There is also another restaurant of the same name and equal quality of food in a more typical Dominican barrio. It's prices are somewhat cheaper.

These are the two places where I've had the best seafood in Santiago - please don't consider Marisco Centro, not unless you think Mrs French's fishsticks is cuisine.

As long as we are recommending restaurants in Santiago; consider these two............

Sabras on JP Duarte
Zol in Los Jardines

While it has been a while, I can say that the views are wonderful, the food is good, beer is cold, wine is fine (if you know what you order).
I cannot claim to be a food connoisseur, but the food was pretty fair...we usually had steaks of some sort. Sometimes (my mind is telling me, the sauce was a bit overpowering..)...

Anyway, do it and report back...

All of the other places are very good, too....

We eat well in this city.

dont order the lobster.....

I ate there three times... and I had the same thing twice
a clear night is best and go before sunset.

the wait is beyond rediculous and certainly not worth the food you get.

but i bet in a place like that it is entirly possible they turn over the chef once in a while...so each time brings new possiblities maybe ha ha ha

you could choose a half dozen other places with non descript food and NOT have the view...

just go once for sure

but the wait.....I almost walked out ........its even bad by dominican standards

bad bob

You hit the nail on the head.

Best bet is to eat somewhere else and then head up there afterwords for desert and drinks and maybe a good smoke.

rooms at camp david....

we are considering staying there as we fly into STI on November 7th, and then we're heading to Cab the next day. Will a taxi know how to get us there from the airport? How far is it from town where we'll need to get transport to Cab? Are the rooms nice? Any info appreciated (as well as any suggestions for other lodging options in town).

Thanks!

you can catch a cab right at the airport terminal. and they will all know how to get to Camp David.

you might want to call ahead and make sure you book a room.

there are so many places to stay, you could search the central forum and find a bunch of threads on it.

how you getting to Cabarete????

have you made those plans yet?

What about Rancho Luna Steak House just below Camp David. Don't know if it is still open but the last time I was there like 3 years ago it was excellent.

If they have recovered from the fire???
Don't know.

Rebecca: I would not stay there for just one night here. I would stay at one of the nicer hotels of equal price: Jardines, Aloja Sol or Platino. Taxi fare will be cheaper, and getting taxis to Cabarete even easier and faster. In fact you can get buses to Cabarete, and go in style (Is Metro getting to Cabarete yet?)..or bus to Sos?a and taxi to Cabarete, still cheaper and you are safer and more comfortable in the long run...

Just a hint..
