Global Affairs Canada told The Spectator it’s aware of the arrest and consular officials are in contact with local authorities.

Wilcox noted that beyond the support from the federal government, the community has also pulled through for the couple, including hosting fundraisers to help cover incurred costs.

She said the couple has spent roughly $40,000 so far between legal fees, Bennett’s bail and his living expenses at a short-term rental in the Dominican.

“We are in close contact with the RCMP and were informed over the weekend that the RCMP liaison officer in the Dominican Republic has provided the prosecutor in the Dominican Republic all the evidence that has been requested that shows Dave did not have the yellow suitcase at any time here in Canada,” Wilcox said. “We’re hopeful the RCMP work will be enough for the prosecutor to drop the case.” https://www.insidehalton.com/news/i...cle_b8236a97-5458-575a-b2fc-1eacef9ef2a5.html

Didn't something similar happen to a woman traveling through Punta Cana not too long ago?

Yes, except that was drugs leaving the country when a rogue airline employee at PUJ tagged a bag and tried to send it onward under a passengers name.

This appears to be drugs coming into the country....

He has a photo of his black tagged bag while the one with drugs (only a photo was shown to him) was bright yellow. He'll probably be released if all they have to hold him is a partial name match.

Another crime solved by "Big".
I have a tendency to side with the P.D. Why pray tell would they plant a substance on a tourist. Is there a pattern of this? I think not. What does the P.D have to gain? If the security cameras capture him checking the bag he will be charged. If not, he will be cleared.

Precisely! Another gringo held on questionable evidence well beyond the legal remand period dictated by the DR Constitution. The PN shite show is never ending.

They will bleed him dry and as soon as they see he's out of money, he'll be released.

I didn't think he was in jail? I thought he was released but can't leave the country? I have read a couple different stories in the media about this, maybe I missed something.

He was in jail for a few days and is now staying in an AirB&B. He has Canadian and Dominican lawyers hired to clear him of the charges. His partner returned to the DR to support him.
