When my husband and I were at Playa Dorada in 1997 we found that exchanging our candian funds to US before we left home made little difference. The straight exchange on our Canadian $'s (to Pesos) was pretty much equal to going from canadian to US to Pesos. Is it necessary to exchange to Pesos at all?? Should we just bring US?? Any suggestions??

I travel extensively throughout the globe and have found that the best way to get the current days exchange rate is to use an atm machine in the city where you're at. I always consider getting $100.00 at the airport which is always enough to get me into my hotel and locate a local atm. I'm going to Santo Domingo on the 10th of May for about 10 days and anticipate no problem in finding atm's.

Lots of luck,

Tom

I found that to have US dollars in small bills works best. You really don't even have to change money then. Then tend to like US dollars, and I would think the same goes for Canadian. Singles and fives work great. I personally would be cautious of ATM's.

Most banks will exchange your Canadian currency to RD.Pesos and most major hotels have ofices for curreccy exchange. If you are shopping, most business will accept US. dollars vs Canadian. I recomend that you use your credit cards rather than taking large amount of currency, but is also good to have in hand some RD.pesos.
